Mark Pope is cleaning up in his second offseason as Kentucky men’s basketball head coach. With six players from last season having exhausted their college eligibility and one more leaving the program through the transfer portal, Pope has done a great job thus far reloading for next season less than two weeks since his first run in Lexington came to an end.

How great, you might wonder? If you ask our good friends at On3, they’ll tell you Kentucky currently has the second-best transfer portal class in the country. Pope has added four portal prospects to this point, headlined by a potential top-five 2026 NBA Draft pick. More could be on the way, too.

On3 Industry Rankings for Kentucky’s 2025 portal commits

3. PF Jayden Quaintance (5-star) | 6-10, 225 rising sophomore
39. PG Jaland Lowe (4-star) | 6-1, 160 rising junior
48. SF Mouhamed Dioubate (4-star) | 6-7, 215 rising junior
55. SF Kam Williams (4-star) | 6-8, 190 rising sophomore

The On3 Industry Rankings take into account the player rankings from both On3 and 247Sports. How those two platforms grade Kentucky’s portal commit varies. For example, On3 has Quaintance and Dioubate ranked No. 2 and No. 42, respectively, in their own rankings. Meanwhile, 247Sports has Quiantance at No. 10 and Dioubate at No. 52.

The inverse of that is also true. 247Sports is much higher on Lowe and Williams, ranking them No. 29 and No. 36 among this offseason’s transfers, while On3 slots them at No. 59 and No. 86, respectively. Regardless, when the two rankings are combined, Kentucky has four transfers ranked among the 55 best in the country. That looks good on paper.

For comparison’s sake, below is a list of a few of Kentucky’s top rivals and where their portal commits stand in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Louisville (5th):
8. Adrian Wooley
15. Isaac McKneely
16. Ryan Conwell

Tennessee (9th):
9. Ja’Kobi Gillespie
95. Jaylen Carey

Alabama (15th):
44. Jalil Bethea
49. Taylor Bol Bowen
61. Noah Williamson

Auburn (27th):
23. Keyshawn Hall

Let’s keep in mind that, outside of the top few guys, the transfer portal is more about fit rather than simply how talented a player is. Otega Oweh ended up making All-SEC Second-Team in his first season at Kentucky — he was No. 109 by the On3 Industry Ranking last offseason. Lamont Butler wasn’t too far ahead at No. 89. Ansley Almonor, a key contributor off the bench, was all the way down at No. 345.

Pope isn’t done cooking yet either.
