Which NBA teams Kentucky players have worked out for ahead of the Draft deadline
The deadline to withdraw from the 2023 NBA Draft is by the end of the day on Wednesday, May 31 — just right around the corner. The decisions that come out of it will play a significant role in what next season’s Kentucky men’s basketball roster will look like. With only seven scholarship players (eight if you include Brennan Canada) currently on the roster for 2023-24, May 31 is going to be an important day for John Calipari.
Five Kentucky players could theoretically hear their names called during the 2023 NBA Draft, which is set for June 22, but only two of them have given up their remaining college eligibility — Cason Wallace is a projected lottery pick after an impressive freshman season at UK while Jacob Toppin will hope to sneak his way into the back end of the draft or get picked up after the fact.
But the other three are ones with big decisions to make. Oscar Tshiebwe, Chris Livingston, and Antonio Reeves can all either come back to Lexington, put their names into the transfer portal, or remain in the draft pool. Tshiebwe played well during the NBA Draft Combine earlier this month but didn’t exactly showcase anything the scouts didn’t already know about his game. Livingston elected not to participate in the Combine’s 5-on-5 portion while Reeves did not receive an invite to the event at all.
Of these three, most mock drafts do not have any of them getting selected in the upcoming draft. You might see Tshiebwe’s name listed as a potential late-second-round pick and Livingston’s connection with Klutch Sports Group could help his cause, but Reeves is mostly nowhere to be found. Regardless, all three could get picked up as undrafted free agents if they are not among the 58 draft choices. Their decisions will ultimately come down to whether or not they want to begin their pro careers now or later.
So where could they land if the draft wins out? The folks over at HoopsHype have compiled a running list of all the workouts that NBA teams have hosted for potential draft prospects. Below are the franchises that Tshiebwe, Livingston, and Reeves have all worked out for ahead of Wednesday’s deadline along with the picks those teams hold in the 2023 NBA Draft. Keep in mind that these teams could have held workouts with the idea of potentially snagging players if they ultimately go undrafted.
