KSR is a place to stay up to date on all things Kentucky athletics related but more importantly it's a safe haven for us to get together and just be Cats fans. There isn't much more I like doing than discussing random topics with other Wildcat Friends. You know, just normal stuff that fans talk about, the silly meaningless topics that we care deeply about.
Kentucky fans love to reminisce and talk about the things from the past they treasure most. Perhaps, one of the most recurring discussions is: who are your favorite Wildcats of all time? Everyone who is a fan has had this discussion at some point. To me, it never gets old hearing other people's all-time list and why they chose it. It's interesting to hear the differences in opinions in each generation. And
everyone has an opinion.
So let's do that today. Let's all get together and discuss our favorite Cats to ever wear a Kentucky jersey. I'll share my list first to get the discussion started. Then, after you're done cutting down my list, share your own list in the comments. We can use this as a nice way to get back into full on basketball fan mode.
I'll start it off with my top three favorites of all time.
Anthony Davis
I started my freshman year at UK in the fall of 2012, a semester after Kentucky won the title. One cool, October day while walking to my class in the Whitehall building, I saw two abnormally large humans walking in my direction. As our paths came closer to crossing, I suddenly realized these two giants were none other than Anthony Davis and Terrence Jones, visiting campus, I assumed, during the off-season. I happened to be wearing my 2012 National Championship on this particular day, something I didn't realize until I saw Anthony Davis, The Brow himself, look directly at me as our paths merged. He lifted his arm, pointed at my shirt, and exclaimed, "AY, YOU KNOW WE DID THAT S*** FOR Y'ALL, RIGHT?"
It's a phrase and a moment I will never forget. Stunned as to what just happened, I failed to muster up a response that made any sense at all. I'll admit, I was star struck and in awe of the reality that had just ensued. That story is why he is my all time favorite. I also love him for this detailed breakdown of Kentucky's game plan, using basketball language that is hard to comprehend. I've never seen a player go into such detail in a post-game interview in my life.

DeAndre Liggins
He was never the best player on any team he played on, but Liggins was just an ornery competitor. He played with fearless attitude that he exemplified with his relentless trash talk. Everyone remembers him yelling, "Do the John Wall now!" in the hand shake line after they eliminated West Virginia from the 2011 NCAA Tournament, just a year after the Mountaineers taunted Kentucky after eliminating them a year prior. Liggins overcame a ton of adversity over his career at Kentucky. He went from barely seeing the floor in his early years under Gillispie to being a lock down defender and key factor during the 2011 Final Four run. Liggins was the definition of a player you love having on your team but hated to play against.
Julius Randle
Randle is perhaps the most underrated player of the John Calipari era. He is also part of my most cherished memory of being a Kentucky basketball fan, which was the 2014 NCAA Tournament run. Most of us associate that magical run with Aaron Harrison and his late game heroics but without Julius Randle, none of Harrison's magic would've been possible. Randle was automatic in the post during that tournament run. He got every rebound and when Kentucky needed a bucket in the post, he was automatic. He also just dominated Montrezl Harrel in the Sweet Sixteen against Louisville, a win that wouldn't have been possible without him. He wasn't flashy, but he was the definition of consistency.
So, there are my top three favorite players of all time. Yes, it is a very recent list, but these guys brought me more joy in my lifetime of being a Kentucky fan than anyone else who has ever worn the blue and white.
Now, it's your turn. Who are your favorite players ever? And why are they your favorite?
