Wildcats will honor Chris Oats by wearing No. 22 jersey
Kentucky fans expected to see No. 22 making plays from the middle linebacker position in 2020. A tragic, unexpected medical condition has sidelined Cincinnati native Chris Oats for the season. To pay tribute to their friend and teammate, the Wildcats will make sure No. 22 in Kentucky blue is still making plays on Saturdays.
Each week one player will salute Oats by wearing his jersey. The first person to put on No. 22 is the linebacker who was expected to make plays at his side this season, DeAndre Square.

Once Square puts on No. 5 in week two against Ole Miss, it will be his fourth number at UK. As a freshman the Michigan native wore No. 43, followed by No. 17 in 2019.
The No. 22 will be passed to Oats’s former roommate, tight end Keaton Upshaw, the following week. Oats is currently recovering from his undisclosed medical emergency in a rehabilitation center.
