Will Levis Believes Devin Leary will Succeed at Kentucky

When Devin Leary hit the transfer portal, he immediately became one of the most sought after quarterbacks on the market. A former roommate at the Manning Passing Academy who also went through the same process was quick to offer some advice. Will Levis was happy to share what his experience was like at the University of Kentucky.
“Once I entered the transfer portal, Will texted me and said, ‘Dude, if Coach Coen is coming here, there’s no better quarterback coach in the world to come get developed by,'” Leary said last month. “I trust Will, I look at Will as a good friend and as soon as I heard that from him and saw the way that he was able to develop after transferring, it made total sense.”
“I was just honest with how I felt about the school,” Levis recalled at the NFL Combine, “which is my love for it, my love for the coaching staff, my love for the players and my belief in him, knowing the type of player he was, to be able to put him into that system and succeed. Obviously, I think the situation that I’m in right now, being a potential draft pick, was exciting for him to see that by playing in an offense like that and having success at Kentucky, that could be a possibility for him. I was just honest.”
After visiting Kentucky and Auburn, Leary ultimately took Levis’ advice and committed to the University of Kentucky.
Levis Believes Coen and Leary are a Great Fit at Kentucky
When healthy, Devin Leary was one of the most efficient quarterbacks in college football. In 2021 he completed 65.7% of his passes for 3,433 yards (8 yards per attempt), 35 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Surrounded by talented young pass-catching weapons like Barion Brown, Dane Key and Jordan Dingle, Levis believes the offense will take a step forward under Liam Coen’s tutelage.

“It’s great, it’s great for the guys,” Levis said about Coen’s return to Kentucky. “I know that Coach Stoops is really happy about it and I know he’s going to make the best decisions for the program. Coach (Coen) loves it there and I know he’s excited to be back and I know that Devin (Leary) and all the other guys are going to learn a lot from him and we’re going to take a big step going forward from this past year.”
It’s a big week for Will Levis. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky said, “No one has more pressure on them these next 48 hours than Levis.” Amid the pressure, the former Kentucky quarterback is still keeping close tabs on the next Kentucky quarterback.
“I texted him yesterday, just checking in,” said Levis. “They got spring ball starting on Monday, so I’m really excited to see how spring starts off for them. I know all of the guys from that offense this past year are, especially the young ones, are going to be able to develop to make an even bigger mark this year.”
