Phew: Will Levis believed to only have a sprained ankle
On Sunday afternoon, it looked like Will Levis‘ promising rookie season was about to come to a screeching halt. With under two minutes to go in overtime vs. the Houston Texans, Levis was sacked for the seventh time (!), and his left leg was caught under a defender as he was pulled to the turf. The injury looked so gruesome that CBS Sports refused to play the replay.
Thankfully, it looked much worse than it actually was. Levis was able to walk off the field and according to Ian Rapoport, he is believed to only have a sprained ankle. We’ll know more after his MRI today. The Titans host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday but the loss yesterday officially eliminated them from playoff contention.
“It could’ve been a lot worse,” Levis said after the 19-16 loss to the Texans. “It was definitely scarier in the moment than it was, but we will see what the trainers say. But feel all right.”
The seven sacks the Titans allowed yesterday were a season-high and brought the season total to 50, the fifth most in the league. The Titans start two rookies on the offensive line, left guard Peter Skoronski (their No. 11 draft pick) and left tackle Jaelyn Duncan. Everyone with a pulse knows improving the offensive line is paramount but on Sunday, it became painfully clear how dire the situation is.

“It’s probably one of the worst feelings in the world playing this sport,” Titans right tackle Dillon Radunz said of the line’s shaky protection, per Jim Wyatt. “The guy you protect, the guy you are supposed to be holding up (for), he’s supposed to have trust in us. We have to be way better for Will.”
Levis’ diagnosis is a huge sigh of relief — fearing for his life has become a routine part of watching games for me — but the Titans HAVE to get him some better protection so we can see more plays like these:
