WATCH: Will Levis lights up Kentucky football practice
Will Levis is creating preseason buzz for Kentucky football.
The redshirt junior and Penn State transfer was named the starting quarterback for the Wildcats on Sunday. After completing 74 percent on his throws early in camp and dropping a 65-yard bomb for a touchdown last weekend at Kroger Field, Mark Stoops knew Levis was the man for the job despite limited playing time at Penn State.
“We were ready. It was the right time,” Stoops said about the program’s decision to name Levis the starter on Sunday evening. “I also wanted to, if I knew this was the decision we were going to make, I wanted to give people like Joey [Gatewood] the opportunity to transfer and go somewhere. If you wait another week, he’s trapped here. I thought it was the right decision to let him know where we stand, and he appreciated that.”
“It’s not a personal decision,” said Stoops.
On Tuesday, Kentucky opened its doors to the media, and KSR got to see Levis work in-person with the ones throughout an entire practice. During the workout, Levis stretched the field vertically and flashed excellent velocity on intermediate routes. The quarterback is quickly building a rapport with the pass catchers on the roster.

The Wildcats are proven at the line of scrimmage, and the defense has veterans at all three levels. The passing game is the biggest question mark as new offensive coordinator Liam Coen attempts the fix the offense. The new quarterback is giving Kentucky hope for the future.
KSR’s Bradley McKee was there to document it all on video. Levis showed flashes that will get the Big Blue Nation excited for this upcoming season. The 6-foot-3 quarterback has a big arm and the foot agility to move around and make plays on the run.
Football is coming.
