Will Levis may have been dealt a setback in his battle for Tennessee Titans backup quarterback. This afternoon, Levis had to leave the Titans’ joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings early due to a lower-body injury, according to Paul Kuharsky. The injury occurred late in practice, as Levis was supposed to take the snaps in the final two-minute drill session but was unable to, leaving the field to receive treatment in the facility.

Afterward, head coach Mike Vrabel did not give reporters specifics regarding Levis’ injury, instead saying the team will have to “see where he’s at” when it comes to Saturday’s preseason game. Whether that means Malik Willis, the second-year quarterback with whom Levis has been competing, gets all the reps vs. the Vikings or that starter Ryan Tannehill plays is also unknown.

“We’ll let you guys know on Saturday,” Vrabel said.

Prior to getting hurt, Levis looked good at today’s practice according to reporters on the ground. This touchdown pass to Gavin Holmes during a red zone period was particularly impressive:

Levis’ injury comes one day after Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks was carted off the practice field. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Burks suffered an LCL sprain.

Will Levis has ups and downs in preseason debut

In last Saturday’s preseason opener, Levis had good moments and bad, going 9-for-14 overall for 85 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception in the Titans’ 23-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. That pick came on his last throw of the day following a miss on what would have been the game-winning touchdown. Willis completed 16-of-25 passes for 189 yards and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown and 22 yards on three carries.

Levis made some good plays vs. the Bears too. He opened the second quarter with a 21-yard dart to Mason Kinsey on 2nd and 10, and later in the quarter, connected with Racey McMath on another 21-yard pass to convert on 3rd and 13. Tennessee’s backup offensive line didn’t do either Levis or Willis any favors, allowing eight sacks total, but Levis must improve his pocket awareness moving forward.

Fingers crossed his injury’s not too serious and he’ll be able to suit up on Saturday. Kickoff of Titans vs. Vikings is set for 8 p.m. ET.
