'I got a cannon': Will Levis is ready to show off arm talent at NFL Combine
We’re in a race for the No. 1 spot as prep continues for the 2023 NFL Draft. Kentucky quarterback Will Levis is attempting to climb up draft boards at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
On Friday morning, Levis fielded questions from the media for over 13 minutes as organizations are looking deeply at him, Bryce Young (Alabama), C.J. Stroud (Ohio State), and Anthony Richardson (Florida). The Kentucky product is trying to separate from the pack.
Levis believes he is the best quarterback in this class and will be going through a passing workout at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday to show why.
“Because I got a cannon,” Levis told reporters at the Indiana Convention Center. “I’m gonna show it off.”
Those were some strong words from Levis but they were true words. The ball explodes off of Levis’ right hand. That is more noticeable when scouts and coaches get to see the QB in person as opposed to on film. That could help the draft prospect climb into the top five of the draft and potentially get up to No. 1 overall.

The arm talent is the first thing that jumps out when scouting Levis. However, the quarterback can bring some intangibles to an NFL franchise.
“Physically, I think my arm talent. I think I’ve got one of the stronger arms that’s come out of any class in recent memory,” Levis told reporters about what makes him an intriguing prospect. “And then who I am as a person, kind of my morals what I stand for, my values. I think that’s kind of been the most beneficial thing for me to be able to share with these coaches throughout these formal and informal interviews to get them to know me as a person. Get them to kind of understand how seriously I take every aspect of my life and letting them know how much I love ball. I’m able to use those values and those morals to make me the best person — in the locker room and on the field — as possible.”
The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 overall pick, but the overwhelming popular expectation here in Indianapolis is that the NFC North franchise will trade down. That creates an avenue for any QB-needy franchise to make a move via trade. The Houston Texans (No. 2 overall) and Carolina Panthers (No. 9 overall) have each had meetings with the QB this week. Both franchises could be in position to get to the top spot.
Levis appears to have a puncher’s chance at going No. 1 overall. His week in Indy could be capped off by a strong throwing session where arm talent could get the Kentucky product to the apex.
