Where Will Levis stands in the final 2023 NFL Mock Drafts
We are just a few hours away from the 2023 NFL Draft. After months of mock drafting, the talking heads released their final projections over the course of the day. Where do they believe Will Levis will land? Indianapolis (No. 4 pick) continues to be the trendy choice, but the former Kentucky quarterback’s name is still in the conversation for Houston at No. 2 and some believe he’ll slip out of the top ten.
As we count down the minutes to the main event in Kansas City, here’s a roundup of all the major mock drafts:
- Pete Prisco (CBS Sports): No. 2 – Houston Texans
- Charles McDonald (Yahoo): No. 2 – Houston Texans
- Mel Kiper Jr. (ESPN): No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
- Todd McShay (ESPN): No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
- Daniel Jeremiah (NFL.com): No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
- Kevin Hanson (Sports Illustrated): No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
- Adam Luckett (KSR+): No. 3 – Indianapolis Colts (via ARI)
- Dane Brugler (The Athletic): No. 12 – Houston Texans (via CLE)
- Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): No. 25 – Tennessee Titans (via NYG)
Need to know more? Here are a few of their comments:
Pete Prisco: No. 2 – Houston Texans
This will shock a lot of people, but it makes sense. They need to get a franchise passer and Levis has the look teams love. There was talk the Patriots loved Levis and considered trading up to get him, so it makes sense that former Pats personnel man Nick Caserio, who is running the Texans’ draft room, would make this pick.
Adam Luckett: No. 3 – Indianapolis Colts (via ARI)
General manager Chris Ballard is not afraid to trust his board. The Colts typically draft away from the consensus and that will happen again this year. Indianapolis swaps spots with Arizona to land Will Levis (6-4, 229, 23.8). The traits-first Kentucky quarterback has familiarity with an NFL scheme which should give the former Big Ten transfer a high floor. New head coach Shane Steichen had success putting together plans for young QBs Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts. Now he will attempt to do the same with Levis in the AFC South.
Mel Kiper Jr.: No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
I’ll stick with this match once again. The Colts have an offensive core to help Levis succeed. He’s going to make some mistakes, but he has experience playing in a pro-style offense and is ahead of the curve in going through progressions and reading defenses.
Todd McShay: No. 4 – Indianapolis Colts
The Levis love in Indianapolis is real. The Colts obviously want to halt the swinging door of underperforming veteran quarterbacks, and using this high pick on a potential franchise signal-caller has always been the plan. With Levis, the physical traits are really exciting — he’s 6-foot-4 with a huge arm and mobility. If he puts it all together, the ceiling is high. But the question will be whether new coach Shane Steichen can iron out his footwork issues and improve his touch. Levis threw 23 interceptions over the past two seasons.
Dane Brugler: No. 12 – Houston Texans (via CLE)
There has been plenty of noise that Levis could be the pick at No. 2 for the Texans, which would be a big shock. Here it would make more sense.
Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports: No. 25 – Tennessee Titans (via NYG)
We were at Levis’ pro day and he’s built like a linebacker — and watching him throw the ball in person is something to behold — you can actually hear the passes whistle. But questions remain about his ability to layer the ball to all three levels, as well as some inconsistencies when rolls to his left. There’s a real chance he falls on draft night but this could be an opportunity for a team to move back up and grab him — and that fifth-year option. Plus, Ryan Tannehill is 35 and entering the last year of his contract, and it doesn’t appear that Malik Willis is in the team’s long-term plans.
Just a few more hours until we know for sure.
