Kentucky quarterback Will Levis joined some pretty impressive company this week.

On Wednesday, it was announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation that Levis has been named as a co-winner of the 2021 Connecticut Player of Year award, presented by Talent Champions Council. He’ll split the award with Miami (FL) Hurricanes QB Tyler Van Dyke, who hails from Glastonbury, CT. The honor is gifted to the top college football player(s) who is either a resident or at one point played at a high school from Connecticut.

Originally from Massachusetts, Levis was a three-year letter winner at Xavier High School in Madison, CT, breaking individual season records for passing yards (2,793), passing touchdowns (27), and completions. He began his college career at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky ahead of the 2021 season where he started all 13 games for the Wildcats and helped power a 10-3 record.

Levis intends to return for a senior season in 2022 in what could be another special year for UK.

During his junior year in 2021, Levis totaled 3,203 yards of total offense and was just the seventh player in school history to reach 3,000 yards total offense in a season, per UK Athletics. He completed 233 of 353 passes for 2,827 yards (66.0 percent) and 24 touchdowns in leading UK to its second 10-win season in the last four years. He added 376 yards and a team-high tying nine rushing touchdowns. Levis ranked among the top 10 in several statistical categories in the Southeastern Conference, including fourth in offensive touchdowns (33), sixth in total offensive yards (3,203), total passing yards (2,827), and passing touchdowns.

This is just the second time in the award’s over 40-year existence where two players have split the honor. Levis is among some special company, though. He joins the likes of Hall of Fame QB Steve Young and former QB turned current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky as Connecticut Player of the Year winners.
