Mock Draft season never really stops, and today, ESPN’s Matt Miller updated his projections for next spring’s big event. After popping up in the top ten of early 2023 NFL Draft mocks back in April, Kentucky quarterback Will Levis continues to be a trendy pick, coming in at No. 8. Miller bases his Round 1 order on 2023 projections from ESPN’s Football Power Index, so in this scenario, Levis would go to the Detroit Lions.

“Levis might no longer be a sleeper as he has entered the household conversation this summer,” Miller wrote. “He has many fans in the NFL, thanks to his size (6-foot-3, 232 pounds), arm strength and gunslinger style of play. Of the top three quarterbacks, he might have the most well-rounded skill set as a thrower, scrambler and designed runner. Levis has to cut down on interceptions — he had 13 last season — but his 33 total touchdowns, including nine on the ground, have evaluators intrigued to see another season.”

Levis is the third quarterback off Miller’s board behind Ohio State‘s C.J. Stroud (No. 5) and Alabama‘s Bryce Young (No. 7), the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Stroud and/or Young are top five in most mock drafts, but Miller has Alabama defensive end Will Anderson Jr. going first in his, followed by Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Will Levis’ Updated Heisman Odds

In his first season at Kentucky after transferring in from Penn State, Levis passed for 2,826 yards and 24 touchdowns to go along with nearly 400 more yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Behind Levis, star wideout Wan’Dale Robinson, and All-SEC running back Chris Rodriguez, Kentucky finished the year 10-3, its second ten-win season in the last four years. This year, the Cats could be primed for an even bigger run; if so, could Levis be a candidate for the Heisman Trophy? Last week, DraftKings SportsBook released updated odds. Levis is currently +6000.

ICYMI, Levis was one of several top quarterbacks at the Manning Passing Academy last weekend and turned heads, making the finals of the Air-It-Out competition and winning the “Best Calves” award (yes, really). On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power was there and included Levis in his list of standouts.

The ball jumps out of Levis’ hand. He showed the best combination of a quick release and velocity of all the quarterbacks on Friday. Levis is able to access the entire field with his arm strength. He didn’t have to strain to drive the ball 60-plus yards. Levis tested as a top athlete as a high school prospect and looks to have maintained those explosive qualities. There’s no question the Kentucky quarterback’s physical tools are top shelf.

Sixty-seven days until we get to see Levis in action in Kentucky’s season opener.
