Win or lose, Teonni Key has brought the energy that Kentucky WBB needs
In Kentucky’s loss to Texas A&M, Teonni Key had a career outing as she scored 20 points on 8-16 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds along the way. A lot went wrong in that game, but not much of what happened in that game could be put on Key’s shoulders.
Then, in Kentucky’s 89-69 win over Arkansas on Sunday, Key responded again, putting up her seventh double-double of the season as she recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Razorbacks.
Key spoke to that energy and the fact that the whole team brought it in Kentucky’s 20-point win in the postgame press conference.
“I think today we just all came out with a more energy, more focus, just more togetherness,” Key explained. “I think just being connected and confident with what we’re doing as individuals, that helps everyone really get to their spots, what they’re doing, stuff like that. Obviously, we had some ups and downs, but I think that was the biggest difference, just being out there together, being confident as an individual and as a group.”
In the midst of explaining what went wrong against Texas A&M and how it correlated to the Arkansas game, Kenny Brooks made sure to note what little right there was to take away from the 61-55 loss to the Aggies as well. While Georgia Amoore struggled from the field, her energy was up and she was playing hard, and while Key didn’t necessarily see the same struggles scoring-wise that Amoore did, her energy was also a big positive in Brooks’ eyes.

“I thought after that game, I think the ones that we applauded were [Georgia and Teonni]. [Georgia] played hard. She didn’t always play great, but she was dealing with it. Her energy was always good. I applauded her energy, and I applauded Teonni’s energy.”
That same energy that Key brought against Texas A&M — even in a losing effort — helped propel Kentucky to a much-needed win over Arkansas as we near the final stretch of the regular season.
