Wolken strikes again!

Marcus Camby.  Chris Douglas-Roberts.  Derrick Rose.  Tyreke Evans.  John Wall.  DeMarcus Cousins.  In the nearly two decades that John Calipari has been a college head coach, a number of players have used their time around him to launch their professional careers.  In a lot of ways, the same goes for the media.  Calipari makes news the guys that write about it get some national play.  Then they move on up like George and Weezie.  The most evident case of this might be Dan Wolken, who parlayed his time on the Memphis beat with Cal into a gig with The Daily, Rupert Murdoch's new offering for iPad users.  The difference with Wolken, though, is that he doesn't treat Calipari with the same regard.  In fact, you could argue that no one dogs him harder. In today's issue of "The Daily", Wolken pens a little piece called "Shadow of a Doubt", in which he takes a look at what he thinks is Coach Calipari's longing acceptance.  Wolken says that despite coming to Kentucky, Calipari has failed to find acceptance with Kentucky's fan base because he hasn't won a national title.  Despite being at a program like Kentucky, he's not respected as a part of the elite.  Obviously, those are both utterly ludicrous.  Pointing out why would only insult your intelligence.  Bringing up the "drumbeats of scandal" (Wolken's words) of the fruitless Eric Bledsoe story, the fruitless Anthony Davis accusations and the scandal-less Enes Kanter situation would probably do the same.  And you know I've got nothing but love for you. But that doesn't mean Wolken's piece was just regular run-the-mill dumb.  It had a new twist.  In what seems like a pretty blatant personal attack, Wolken puts his psychologist hat atop those spikey tips and talks about Calipari's humble upbringing and his longing to "get to the other side of the tracks" (and maybe one day he'll get there!).  Wolken expanded on Twitter and said that "class struggle" has defined Calipari's life.  Far be it from me to question a guy in those shirts (a sure sign of expertise on wanting acceptance), but it seems like Calipari's struggle has been against asshats like Wolken.  And as long as someone is paying him to write, it appears the struggle will continue. Don't forget, Dan.  Cal made you.  Don't be a douche.
