Woodford County guard Armelo Boone commits to Western Kentucky
Armelo Boone (’25) is bringing his talents west of his hometown. The 6’4 senior guard out of Lexington committed to Western Kentucky University earlier this month.
Boone was a key player for the Frederick Douglass Broncos during the 2023-24 season. He led his team with 582 points on the season, averaging 20.8 points per game and 6.4 boards per game while shooting 48.2% from the field.
Boone is the glue — he’s the guy his teammates find in transition. He led with 465 shots attempted last season, which was 169 more attempts than the second-most player.
His prowess extends beyond the high school court, too. Boone plays for the star-studded Team Thad in the Nike EYBL circuit with guys like Jasper Johnson, Jamarion Davis-Fleming, Isaiah Sealy, and many more young talents.
For Team Thad, Boone averaged 15.8 minutes, 5.8 points, and 3.9 rebounds per game. Playing in the Nike EYBL circuit is impressive in and of itself, but getting good minutes and good reps on top of that is elite.

Boone is joining the Hilltoppers soon after one of the Hilltoppers’ most historic seasons to date after punching a ticket to the 2024 NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 years under then-head coach Steve Lutz.
After his graduation in 2025, Boone will join a hungry WKU squad that seeks to continue their Conference USA championship campaign under new head coach Hank Paloma, who was a former assistant coach during the Hilltoppers’ 2023-24 season.
This season, you’ll catch Boone in action for the Woodford County Yellowjackets, led by head coach Jaron Brown. The Yellowjackets have been on an upward trajectory since Brown took over, appearing in their first Final Four in the 2023 KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament and becoming the team to beat in the 8th Region.
