WR Devonte Ross parting ways with Kentucky Football
Before he could even make it to campus, Devonte Ross has elected to part ways with the University of Kentucky.
A class of 2021 three-star wide receiver, Ross was a surprise pickup during the most recent National Signing Day, but he was notably absent during preseason training camp over the summer. At the time, head coach Mark Stoops told the media that Ross had not made it to campus yet, but the hope was that he would arrive by the time the 2021 season began.
With the 2021 season now almost over, Ross has still not yet made it to Lexington. He was the lone recruit out of 18 commits for UK in the class of 2021 who did not arrive on time. On Friday morning, Ross tweeted out that his recruitment is now back open.

Devonte Ross initially committed to Marshall last November before backing out and choosing the ‘Cats roughly one month later. Despite some academic eligibility concerns at the time, he was viewed as an under-the-radar pass-catcher who put up major numbers playing high school football in the talent-rich state of Georgia. Ross mentioned in his tweet that his GPA is “good” and that he’s “just waiting to get cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse”.
Considering the wide receivers that Kentucky already has committed for the class of 2022 (Barion Brown, Dane Key, and Brandon White), potentially losing Ross isn’t as significant at the moment. There’s always the possibility that Ross still winds up with the ‘Cats, but it would appear that he is ready to move on.
Best of luck to Devonte on his next adventure!
