Xander Schauffele Breaks the Valhalla Course Record at the PGA Championship
The 2024 PGA Championship opened with a bang. Even though Valhalla is longer than ever before, and it’s been reduced to a par-71, days of rain softened up the greens for golfers to go low. Nobody has ever gone as low as Xander Schauffele.
Schauffele had a bogey-free opening round to post a 9-under par 62. It ties a record for the lowest score in a round of golf at a major championship and breaks a course record set by Jose Maria Olazabel back in 2000.
Schauffele entered the PGA Championship with the third-best odds to bring home the Wanamaker Trophy. The 2017 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year won an Olympic Gold Medal in 2021, but he has never won a Major Championship. He’s finished second in the 2019 Masters and 2018 British Open.
Louisville native Justin Thomas posted an opening round 2-under par. Tony Finau is currently tied with Robert MacIntyre for second with a score of 5-under par. Keep up to date with all of the scores by following the PGA Championship leaderboard.

An Incredible Start to the PGA Championship
Golfers are scoring low in the opening round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla. I gotta think Steve Buttleman’s introduction is what got them fired up to perform so well on Thursday. This is perfect. Well done.
