Lexington Christian Academy now has its first-ever Gatorade Player of the Year. LCA senior running back Xavier Brown, who is committed to play football at Virginia, was named the Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year on Tuesday morning.

Xavier Brown is a 5-11, 175-pound running back who committed to the Virginia Cavaliers back in July. He’s considered a three-star prospect by On3, the 74th best RB in the country, and a top-10 recruit out of Kentucky from the class of 2022. Before choosing UVA, Brown also held offers from the likes of Wisconsin, West Virginia, Boston College, and Maryland. UK did not offer Brown.

During his senior campaign for LCA, Brown dominated on the ground. He ran for over 1,500 yards on 117 attempts for 22 touchdowns while also hauling in 17 receptions for another 398 yards and six scores. Brown was the leading force behind powering the Eagles to a 13-0 record before his squad fell to Beechwood 23-21 in the Class 2A state title.

“Xavier Brown is as explosive a football player as our state has to offer,” Jason Morris, who is the head coach at Owensboro Catholic High School, said in Gatorade’s press release. “He can hurt you in every aspect of the game. He’s a great returner on special teams, a terrific athlete on offense—catching and running the ball and he can cover any receiver on defense.”

Recent winners of the award include Jager Burton (2020-21, Frederick Douglass High School), Michael Mayer (2019-20, Covington Catholic High School), Wan’Dale Robinson (2018-19, Western Hills High School), and Rondale Moore (2017-18, Trinity High School).
