Your Tuesday Jodie Meeks update

by:Thomas Beisner06/02/09
We're less than two weeks away from the official deadline for Jodie Meeks to decide whether or not he's staying in the NBA Draft (assuming he has not already faxed his plans to Calipari). While most people have a gut feeling that Meeks will likely return to school, he's exactly the type of fringe prospect that could go either way.  If he impresses just one scout or GM enough to guarantee him a spot in the first round, he's likely going to be gone. You would have to assume, though, that a team with multiple picks would be the most likely to give Meeks that first-roudn guarantee. One of those teams I think UK fans should be a little concerned about, the Minnesota Timberwolves, are hosting Jodie this morning (with Michigan State's Goran Suton and Gonzaga's Josh Heytveldt). The T-Wolves have the 18th and 28th picks of the first round meaning they might be more likely to gamble with their later pick on a guy who is a proven scorer but isn't quite NBA-ready.  But, that's really just grasping at straws and speculation.  I'd still bet my whole KSR salary that Meeks will either be back or settling for a second-round contract. On Friday, he will be showcasing his skills for the Philadelphia 76ers, who have the 17th pick.  He will be working out with UNC's Ty Lawson and the one and only T-Wizzle.
