Yusuf Corker waived by New York Giants
In a draft weekend surprise, Kentucky safety Yusuf Corker went undrafted after seven rounds. That did not last for long when the New York Giants signed the former four-star recruit to a deal. Corker was then a member of the NFC East organization for four months.
The McDonough (Ga.) Woodland product survived multiple cuts before the Giants waived the safety on Monday in the final batch of cuts to get down to the 53-man roster.
In his five-year career at Kentucky, Corker played in 50 games drawing 37 starting assignments. The defensive back finished his time in Lexington with 240 tackles and 17 interceptions/pass breakups. Playing free safety for the Wildcats, Corker was a plus defender when allowed to play downhill and brought some thump as an extra run defender. Add that in with high football intellect, and many figured the combination of football smarts with special teams value could find the defensive back a home.

However, the deck is usually stacked against undrafted free agents. Yusuf Corker must now go through waivers, but there is a good chance that New York could sign the safety to the practice squad after he put together a preseason with some good moments.
For now, Wan’Dale Robinson will be the only Kentucky rookie contributing for new head coach Brian Daboll in New York.
