Last we heard in early July, ZaKiyah Johnson was down to six schools and she was going to commit to her future school on November 23rd — her birthday. However, both of those things have changed since then.

What didn’t change? Kentucky still being in the race to land the five-star in-state talent.

Now, Johnson is down to just three schools — LSU, Louisville and Kentucky, and she is reportedly now planning to commit on November 1st. This would allow her to be able to sign during the early signing period (Nov. 13-20).

Johnson has visited Kentucky a handful of times, twice even in the last four weeks. Her official visit to Kentucky was the weekend of the Ohio football game, and she was also in-house for Big Blue Madness this past Friday.

Additionally, On3’s Talia Goodman spoke to Johnson recently about what she liked about her finalists. Despite the ‘Cats entering her recruitment late, Johnson still really likes what they have to offer.

“This one is definitely new,” Johnson told Goodman. “I already had a great relationship with Coach [Kenny] Brooks, but I didn’t really like the Virginia area. Now that he’s here and we’re building that connection, it’s going to be better because it’s closer and it’s something I’m familiar with. Also, Coach Josh [Petersen] from Miami – he was recruiting me at Miami and we talked a lot. He was kind of like one of my best friends. I’m very close with the staff and I think seeing the new program is really going to tell me what I need to know.”
