13 former LSU Tigers in the NFL Divisional Round this weekend
Thirteen former LSU football players, including 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, are still chasing a Super Bowl ring as the NFL playoffs move into the Divisional Round.
LSU is well-represented across seven of the eight remaining teams, with the Houston Texans boasting the largest Tiger contingent—four former players. The Kansas City Chiefs are the only team in the Divisional Round without an LSU player on their roster.
Along with the 13 players, LSU has two former Tigers making their mark on the sidelines: Kelvin Sheppard, the Lions’ linebackers coach, and Dennis Johnson, the Ravens’ defensive line coach.
The action kicks off Saturday afternoon when the Chiefs take on the Texans at 3:30 p.m. CT on ABC/ESPN. That game features LSU stars Derek Stingley Jr., Danielle Hunter, Devin White, and Austin Deculus. Stingley Jr. has become one of the best cover corners in the league and played a key role in last week’s Wild Card win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He finished that game with four tackles, two interceptions and five defended passes in the game.
Later that evening, Daniels takes center stage again when the Commanders travel to face the Detroit Lions at 7 p.m. on FOX. Daniels, who earned the Heisman with an electrifying 2023 season at LSU, made NFL history last week in his playoff debut. He became the first rookie quarterback to lead his team in both rushing yards (38) and passing yards (268) in a playoff win. Daniels also joined an elite list of rookie quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era to win a road playoff game, alongside Russell Wilson (2012), Mark Sanchez (2009), and Joe Flacco (2008).
