BREAKING: 2023 SG Mike Williams commits to LSU
LSU got big news on Sunday when Matt McMahon landed another 2023 commitment. Mike Williams, a three-star guard out of the Baltimore area announced his commitment to the Tigers, he told On3.
“I chose LSU because of the family atmosphere, the relationship that I have not only with the assistant but the head coach as well,” Williams said to On3’s Joe Tipton. “We have built a great relationship. I also chose LSU because of the plan they have for me and how much they believe in me.”
The 6-3 shooting guard out of Cumberland (Md.) Bishop Walsh picked LSU over Clemson, DePaul, Syracuse, VCU, and Wake Forest. Each of Williams’ six finalists have hosted him on an official visit, besides VCU. The Rams hosted him unofficially.
Mike Williams is the No. 202 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 45 shooting guard and the No. 6 player in the state of Maryland.
He becomes the second addition to LSU’s recruiting class, joining four-star power forward Corey Chest (No. 107).

LSU getting a top riser in Mike Williams
On3’s Jamie Shaw recently wrote this about Williams: “Mike Williams, the player, has been hiding in somewhat plain sight. He played his high school ball with Bishop Walsh (MD), who participates in the NIBC, and he played his travel ball this year with Team Thrill, a program that made it to the UAA Next Circuit finals.
“Williams is an aggressive, downhill guard. He can defend the point of attack or the passing lanes, and he can create his own offense in the half-court or full-court setting. He scored 0.951 points per possession in transition for Team Thrill this summer. This opened the eyes of a good number of high-major college programs.”
It should be noted that Mike Williams is expected to rise in the next On3 2023 update.
