2024 DB Bernard Causey commits to LSU
After pressing 2024 New Orleans defensive back Bernard Causey, the LSU target reopened his recruitment. It didn’t take long for the John F. Kennedy prospect to announce his commitment to the Tigers on Tuesday.
“LSU is my hometown team,” Causey told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “Me being a hometown hero for my family, friends, and the community stands out. I also have access to the resources that I need to succeed.”
LSU offered Causey in September, and the push to flip the Rebels commitment was led by a New Orleans native in LSU assistant head coach Frank Wilson.
“(LSU recruiting specialist Sheman Wilson) was talking to me for a while, and now Coach Frank has taken over with reaching out a lot,” Causey said. “They got Coach Kelly to offer me, and he was telling me that he watched my film and sees how much I’ve improved. He also looked over my grades and said I checked all the boxes. Coach Kelly said I’m someone that can really help the team.
“With Coach Frank, it’s all love and respect. He comes from where I come from. So, we have our personal talks … Coach Frank has told me that he would respect my call in the end, but he definitely wants to see me at LSU.”
He backed off his Ole Miss commitment earlier this week.
“Beyond grateful for the opportunity to be offered a scholarship to ole miss but at this time I will be decommitting to open up my options,” Causey wrote. “I want to thank the team, the coaches, and the fans for all the love I was shown, Ole Miss will still be an option.”
Warren Easton’s Wallace Foster was one of the staff’s earliest cornerback commitments, while Lafayette Christian Academy four-star Ju’Juan Johnson flipped his pledge from Colorado to the Tigers this past offseason. The Tigers then added Florida four-star cornerback Cai Bates in July.
One week ago, four-star cornerback Ondre Evans flipped his commitment from LSU to Georgia, and the Tigers quickly added Mississippi defensive back PJ Woodland.

John F. Kennedy’s football program finished 10-2 a year ago, putting together a perfect record of six wins and no losses in Class 3A District 9.
One year later, Kennedy is once again unbeaten in district play, sitting at 6-1 overall with three regular season games remaining.
For Causey, one of the team’s veteran leaders, the focus is now on his high school season.
“I feel better about our chances this year, because we are playing our best football right now,” Causey told The Bengal Tiger staff. “We got a lot of new people, but good new people. They also made some of our guys eligible (on Wednesday), so that’s big for us. In December, we will be in the Superdome. Everyone is doing what they have to do to reach that state championship goal. The players are going overtime on the film and the coaches are giving it all they got. We had a good team last year, but we are locked in this year. Even our practices are standing out.”
As for his work in the classroom, Causey said he remains on track to enroll in college in January and participate in spring practices this offseason.
“I’m still that same honor roll student, nothing has changed there,” Causey said. “I am graduating and then leaving in January. From there, my goal is to work hard and compete to play as a freshman.”
