BREAKING: 4-star big Shawn Phillips commits to LSU
2022 Dayton (Ohio) Dream City Christian center Shawn Phillips announced his commitment to LSU on Tuesday, he told On3. The 7-0, 250-pounder pledged to play for Matt McMahon after an official visit to LSU earlier this month. With Phillips on board, LSU’s completed its 2022-23 roster.
Georgetown, Kansas State, NC State (where he was committed earlier this spring) and numerous others had offered the four-star big man. Kansas State hosted him in April while the Hoyas didn’t end up hosting the Ohio native.
The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies – ranks Phillips as the No. 132 overall prospect in the country and the No. 20 ranked center. On3’s evaluators are even higher on Phillips, ranking him the No. 101 overall prospect in the class.
Shawn Phillips locks in impressive front court for LSU
Phillips is the latest big piece in the front court to sign on with McMahon. Last month, LSU inked Murray State transfer big man KJ Williams, one of the top available transfers in the country.

LSU went on a tear in the high school recruiting ranks earlier this spring, landing a pair of elite prospects. On3 five-star forward Tyrell Ward and four-star big man Jalen Reed signed with the Tigers. LSU also brought in former Murray State signee Corneilous Williams, a big man out of North Carolina.
LSU guards Adam Miller, Justice Williams and Mwani Wilkinson announced this spring that they were returning to play for McMahon in Baton Rouge next season. Miller missed all of last season due to an ACL tear while Williams and Wilkinson both saw time.
Five other transfers pledged to LSU. Mississippi State forward Derek Fountain, Northwestern State big man Kendal Coleman and NC State guard Cam Hayes along with Murray State backcourt teammates Justice Hill and Trae Hannibal join the Tigers next year.
