4-star DB Jhase Thomas commits to LSU
2025 Destrehan (La.) defensive back Jhase Thomas committed to LSU on Saturday, he announced in front of family and friends. It caps a massive summer for Thomas, who earned his offer from the in-state program last month.
Thomas is the son of former Ole Miss Rebel and NFL cornerback, Fred Thomas. He chose the Tigers over Colorado, Houston, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
From safeties coach Jake Olsen to the rest of the staff, the Tigers always impressed across numerous visits this spring.
“The coaching staff always shows a lot of love every time I come to Baton Rouge,” he told The Bengal Tiger staff. “They show they want me and appreciate me over there. I talk with Coach Olsen and Coach Sherman a lot. I am also in contact with people on the defensive side of the ball like Coach Corey Raymond and Coach Blake Baker.”
The run of Destrehan players to LSU continues with the On300 prospect.
“The Destrehan to LSU legacy is crazy. We’ve had a lot of former players be really successful there, and they use that in recruiting with Destrehan guys. They let us know that the Destrehan guys can come to LSU and be successful. All the Jefferson brothers were successful there, John Emery was a great player from Destrehan, and now Kolaj Cobbins is over there. It’s going to be fun to watch.”

On3 national scout Cody Bellaire saw him in-person the moment LSU offered Thomas. At 6-1, 175 pounds with frame to add substantial mass, he ran 4.4 in the 40-yard dash twice and jumped over 35 inches in the vertical at LSU camp.
“Jhase Thomas was definitely someone that commanded a lot of attention from the LSU staff,” Bellaire said on The Bengal Tiger Podcast. “When I tell you that this cat was offered directly after testing, he quite literally ran his 40, went to the warm-up area to wait for drills to start, the personnel staff ran the numbers to Brian Kelly. He calls Jhase over and boom, that’s it. Offered, done. Before he even works out. Obviously, one of the big questions they had with him going into this was some of the top end speed, overall athleticism and size.”
On3 is now highest on him in the recruiting industry, ranking him as the No. 270 overall prospect, No. 22 safety in the country and No. 10 prospect in Louisiana.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Thomas is the No. 49 overall safety in the country and No. 20 prospect in Louisiana.
