2024 Shadow Creek (Tex.) defensive back Maurice Williams was just back in Baton Rouge for another visit last weekend. Now, after taking an official visit to Houston, he’s decommitted from LSU, he announced.

Williams committed to LSU on June 18, 2022, which made him one of the longest tenured commitments for Brian Kelly’s class. He holds offers from the Cougars as well as Arkansas, Ole Miss and others.

Williams ranks as the No. 118 player and the No. 6 safety in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Maurice Williams scouting report

“Well-rounded safety prospect with technique and polish in coverage. Measured around 5-foot-11.5, 185 pounds as a sophomore. Plays for one of the more talented high school programs in the greater Houston area. A smooth mover in coverage. Advanced technically and has the skills to man up on receivers if needed.

“Shows good instincts and play speed. Ran well as a sophomore, clocking an electronically-timed 4.74 second 40-yard dash. A solid form tackler who is willing to get physical when coming down to play the run. Has the skills to make more plays on the ball in coverage as a junior.”

Williams was a first-team Texas District 23-6A unanimous first-team pick as a junior. He recorded 43 tackles, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries, three pass deflections and one caused fumble in 2022. Williams had 47 tackles and one interception as a sophomore for Shadow Creek, who made it to the second round of the Texas 6A D-II playoffs.
