2023 Columbus (Ga.) Carver defensive lineman Darron Reed committed to LSU on the 4th of July, giving the Tigers a monster recruiting win.
LSU turned the tide with his official visit in June, fending off Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Clemson and other programs. From his time with the coaches and players to academics, LSU held his best official visit to date.
“I liked the hospitality. I felt at home when I was down there,” Reed told The Bengal Tiger. “Coaches showed me a great time and I had a great time all over. They showed me the mechanical engineering program, we talked ball and chopped it. I liked how (engineering) was hands on. They got a race car team that they build one and then race so it’s a lot of hands on stuff.
“I had great relationship with the players when we went out. We talked about football and I just hung with them like I was one of them.”
On3.com has Darron Reed ranked as the nation’s No. 29 overall prospect, No. 4 defensive lineman and No. 2 prospect in Georgia. According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Reed ranks as the No. 170 overall prospect, No. 22 defensive lineman and No. 16 prospect in Georgia.

Darron Reed scouting report
“Big-framed, long defensive lineman with the build and versatile skill set to project at multiple spots along the front. Checks in at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds with the frame and length to continue filling out. Would not be surprised to see him end up in the 300 pound range after some time in a college strength program.
“Lines up inside and at defensive end for Carver and excels at both spots. Shows off an explosive first step along with the on-field athleticism to track down ball carriers as a pursuit defender. Pairs that athleticism with strong hands and the ability to shed blocks in run defense. Had a strong junior season as a stalwart on the defensive line for a state finalist team.” -On3 director of recruiting Charles Power
