BREAKING: 4-star LB Kolaj Cobbins commits to LSU

2024 Destrehan (La.) linebacker Kolaj Cobbins committed to LSU, he announced on Friday. The four-star prospect is taking an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.
Texas, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, LSU and Ole Miss made his Top 6 in January. The Tigers have always stood out to him though.
“For one, it’s Louisiana. I can’t go wrong with that. It’s my home state,” Kolaj Cobbins said in December. “Two, the bond that I have with the coaches. Coach Kelly, coach Cain, coach Sherman, recruiting staff, coach House, it’s just very strong. The atmosphere at LSU, they just treat me like family. I definitely couldn’t go wrong with LSU. This being coach Kelly’s first year and they went to the SEC Championship game, they got so much more to improve on.”
Cobbins took multiple visits to LSU across the past year, building a relationship with the likes of defensive line coach Jamar Cain, defensive coordinator Matt House, recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson and others.
Kolaj Cobbins goes ‘home’ with commitment
For a while now, Cobbins has seen LSU as a place that’s comfortable for him. Now, he’s the ninth commitment for the Tigers in the 2024 recruiting class.

“LSU is home,” Cobbins told On3 last month. “When I was there, they separated me from the other kids and it’s like I’m already an LSU player riding around with the coaches and things like that.”
“Going one on one with Brian Kelly, he told me that most SEC schools want you, but we want you and we need you,” he recalled. “That meant a lot to me to hear that.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Kolaj Cobbins ranks as the No. 202 overall prospect in the country, No. 20 linebacker in the nation and No. 6 prospect in Louisiana.
