BREAKING: 4-star QB Rickie Collins commits to LSU
LSU stayed hot on the recruiting trail when 2023 Baton Rouge (La.) Woodlawn quarterback Rickie Collins announced his commitment to LSU on Wednesday.
Collins was a longtime commitment to Purdue, but LSU won out. Florida State also hosted him for an official visit this summer. LSU hosted numerous times for unofficial visits over the spring and summer.
LSU quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan led the way recruiting Collins for the Tigers. After his decommitment on Monday, the Tigers were the clear favorite. Thanks to Sloan’s push all summer, LSU won out.
“It’s hometown,” Collins said this summer. “Just trying to build a relationship with me. They’re trying to get me on a visit and show me around. I’m from the city so get me a feel for the people there and the facilities.”
“I’ve been talking to him, building a relationship with coach Sloan since Louisiana Tech, so just keep growing that relationship because you never know where he might end up.”

Rickie Collins gives LSU one of Louisiana’s best
Collins is the No. 173 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s the No. 12 overall quarterback and No. 13 overall prospect in Louisiana.
As a junior, he was named District 5-5A Offensive MVP after throwing for nearly 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. This offseason, he impressed at the Elite 11 Finals, making his way into the top performers from On3.
“The competition for the final spot was fierce, but we’re going with Collins due to his strong pro day workout on Day 2,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power wrote. “The Baton Rouge Woodlawn product bounced back from an up and down Day 1 to turn in one of the better pro days we saw on Wednesday. Collins was relaxed and natural in his drops and was able to throw with accuracy and touch to all levels. He was a bit up and down in 7-on-7 on Thursday, finishing on target for 8 of 17 passes for two touchdowns and one interception.”
