Aaliyah Chavez releases Top 6 schools, LSU remains in contention
Not even 24 hours after winning the Nike Nationals, Aaliyah Chavez has released her top six schools in her recruitment. The No. 1 player in the country, Chavez’ final six schools are LSU, Texas, South Carolina, UCLA, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.
Coming off of a summer where she dominated on the Nike EYBL scene, Chavez’ recruitment continued to pick up steam and further solidified her as the top player in the country.
Chavez has taken unofficial visits to Texas Tech, Texas, and most recently LSU, but not with the fall approaching is beginning to set those official visits to these schools which will help make her ultimate decision.
The past two weekends, Kim Mulkey and her LSU staff have been at Chavez’ AAU games and watched her score 30+ points. Throughout the past five months, the Tigers’ staff has been consistently recruiting her and at her events and now we’re approaching the final stages of the recruitment.
In total, LSU has hosted Chavez on two unofficial visits since October of 2023 and will look for a perfect official visit in the fall to solidify themselves as a top school for her.
“They’ve recruited me very well,” Chavez told On3’s Talia Goodman. “I think I talk to at least an assistant coach every day. They definitely talk to my parents a lot. They’re also a winning program, and I would love to win… [The visit] was fun. It was definitely different than the other visits. They had all the girls there when I was there, so they were in my photoshoots. It was definitely a different vibe. I like their energy as well – at the photoshoot, it was so high. There was no low energy at all.”
Chavez and her father, Sonny, enjoyed their visit to Baton Rouge and continue to speak highly about Kim Mulkey and the coaching staff.

“She likes to talk directly and we like that,” Sonny Chavez said. “We want to know exactly what’s going to happen and what it’s going to look like. Once we got out there it felt how it was supposed to feel like. We’ve taken Texas and Texas Tech unofficials, but Louisiana is different that’s for sure.”
On3 agrees, Chavez is No. 1
Chavez was named the No. 1 player on On3’s first-ever women’s basketball high school rankings released in late June. Talia Goodman wrote this about the five-star prospect:
“Lubbock (Texas) Monterey point guard Aaliyah Chavez comes in at No. 1 on the inaugural ranking and continues to dominate on the Nike EYBL circuit this offseason, leading all players with 23.4 points and averaging 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists on 51% shooting from the field and 48% from deep.
She was also named the Texas girls’ basketball Gatorade Player of the Year in March, along with earning All-America and all-state honors. The 5-foot-9 point guard recently took an unofficial visit to LSU and has stood out as the top prospect in the 2025 class.”
