Angel Reese continues incredible rookie season in WNBA
Angel Reese has continued her excellent play in the WNBA and is now pushing for the top spot in the league’s Rookie of the Year race after another outstanding performance on Friday night in a win over the Seattle Storm.
Reese had a career-high 27 points along with 10 rebounds and two blocks, extending her double-double streak to 12, tying Candace Parker’s WNBA record across multiple seasons. She’s now averaging 13.9 points and 11.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals and shooting 75.7 percent at the free throw line.
“I don’t really think about it,” Reese said about getting double-doubles. “I just go out there and do my job. My job is to rebound, so I’m going to go out there and do my job and rebound. I know that’s what my teammates need me to do, and I’ve committed to that.”
It’s been an unprecedented run from the former LSU great, one that could shatter records in the WNBA and lead to more accolades in year one in the WNBA. She also hit a pair of 3-pointers in Friday’s win, showing a willingness to take and make some long-distance jumpers. It was the first time in either college or the pros that she made multiple 3-pointers. One of them came in the fourth quarter to put the Sky up eight and help seal the win.
The Sky are now 8-11 on the season and are 4-2 in their last six. Reese has now had three 20 and 10 games and continues to steal the show, helping her team turn it around.

Reese was voted to the all-star game earlier this week, which felt like a moment of realization. As she held back tears, she tried to talk about what it took to get here, but it felt like the culmination of everything she’s been through as a player. From high school, to Maryland, to LSU, and then taking a leap of faith to the WNBA, Reese has always bet on herself and her passion for the game to elevate her, and it has come through time after time.
Now, she’s only scratching the surface of what she can accomplish at the highest level.
“I’m just so happy. I know the work I put in,” said Reese, who had 12 points and 19 rebounds in the 85-77 win. “Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate and I wouldn’t be the player that I was in college or better or would be worse and wouldn’t be where I am right now.
“But I trusted the process and I believed and I’m thankful that I dropped to [pick No. 7] and was able to come to Chicago. And like, it’s just a blessing. I can’t thank my teammates and my coaches enough for just believing in me and trusting me. I know all of them are going to come to Phoenix and support me. So I’m really happy right now.”
