Bradyn Swinson, Sai'vion Jones kick off LSU's weekend of NFL Combine performances

Bradyn Swinson told reporters Wednesday he sees himself as the best edge rusher in this year’s NFL Draft class.
And he helped bolster that case Thursday with his on-field performance as LSU’s dynamic duo of edge rushers — Swinson and Sai’vion Jones — kicked off the program’s workouts at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The Tigers’ team leader in sacks this season with 8.5 only participated in two timing events and finished in the top three among edge rushers in each.
His 4.33-second 20-yard shuttle was second among players at his position only to Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku (4.19 seconds) and fifth among all players on the day when including linebackers.
His 7.13-second three-cone drill was third among edge rushers behind Ezeiruaku (6.94 seconds) and Texas’ Barryn Sorrell (7.06 seconds), a former Holy Cross (New Orleans) star, and sixth among all players on the day.

Swinson’s on-field drills also drew praise from commentators and media in attendance.
Jones, the former St. James star, participated in the broad and vertical jumps in which he finished 14th and 16th, respectively, among listed edge rushers and 22nd and 30th overall for the day.
Both players measured in closely in line with their LSU roster listings.

Next Man Up?
Swinson, who was a breakout star for the Tigers’ defense this fall, was asked by reporters who was “next man up” to follow his footsteps this season.
With minimal hesitation, he pointed to former Evangel Christian star Gabriel “Gabe” Reliford, who played in 13 games as a true freshman and finished with 10 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
“‘ve got real big hopes for Gabe,” Swinson said. “Gabe’s a real hard-working guy. He comes into work everyday and tries to get his work done. Gabe’s competitive, too. Even when I was there, he was trying to compete with me. When you’re a senior and you’ve got a freshman coming in there and trying to make you work hard, it gets tough. But Gabe is up next.”
