LSU took over the No. 1 recruiting class on the On3 Industry Team Football Recruiting Rankings this week, and now the Tigers are adding more firepower.

On Friday afternoon, Alabama 4-star defensive back Dylan Purter committed to LSU, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Purter, who appeared in The Bengal Tiger’s “LSU Class Prediction: Mock 1.0” earlier this week, gives the Tigers another 4-star safety commit in addition to Louisiana’s Aiden Hall, who checks in as a Top 5 safety in the country.

Purter is ranked as a Top 20 cornerback prospect for the 2026 class, but at 6-foot-1, 172 pounds as a junior in high school, the Booker T. Washington standout has been recruited to LSU as a safety who is valued even more for his coverage abilities. Purter said his recruitment saw both LSU safeties coach Jake Olsen and secondary coach Corey Raymond play big roles in getting him committed to the Tigers.

While Purter didn’t pick up an offer from LSU until Feb. 17. The SEC program is among 24 schools that have extended one to the 6-foot-1, 172-pounder.

Since then, the staff has stayed in constant communication, making him feel like a priority. Now, just over a month later after landing that offer, Purter is pledged to Brian Kelly and the Tigers.

“They’ve recruited me pretty heavily, staying in contact on a daily basis,” Purter told On3’s Chad Simmons.

On March 8, Purter visited Baton Rouge to visit for the first time.

That trip made a gigantic impact on his recruitment, Simmons said, giving the 4-star prospect a “home feeling” that he’s searched for.

While the offer may be fresh, Purter knows what he’s looking for at the college level and he knows that LSU can provide him with just that.

“Felt like I’ve been there forever,” he said about his visit. “Coach (Kelly) has amazing standards and holds his players accountable. (Safeties coach Jake Olsen) kept it real with me from the beginning. LSU develops top-notch defensive backs every year.”

“When I was there, the environment was a real family feeling,” Purter added. “Everybody was very welcoming and I felt at home.”

Purter is LSU’s 8th commitment for the 2026 class and second of the week, joining Mississippi 5-star and No. 1 wide receiver Tristen Keys as part of LSU’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class.
