BREAKING: Louisiana S Joel Rogers commits to LSU
Another recruiting domino has dropped in Louisiana, and once again, LSU is the last team standing for one of the best prospects in the Bayou State.
Four-star safety Joel Rogers out of West Feliciana (St. Francisville, La.) announced his commitment to LSU from West Feliciana’s High School gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. CT on June 12.
Rogers picked the Tigers over a double-digit offer list included Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, TCU and more.
LSU locks in one of the best in Louisiana
LSU had been the team trending on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, which included LSU predictions from The Bengal Tiger’s Shea Dixon and Billy Embody, as well as On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman.
The Tigers made Rogers a priority this offseason, with area recruiter Joe Sloan, assistant Frank Wilson and safeties coach Kerry Cooks all playing a role in pushing for the local four-star prospect.
Originally, Rogers planned to make official visits this month to LSU, Alabama and TCU. Instead, he wiped the slate clean following an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge. From there, he cancelled visits to Alabama and TCU, saved his LSU official visit for December and set a commitment date to reveal the Tigers as his choice.
“(LSU safeties coach Kerry Cooks) is a great guy all-around,” Rogers said. “I could tell how intentional he was with player development from the first time I met him at LSU football camp. He understands the game on so many different levels. He teaches as if he is giving all of his knowledge to players to help them see the game the way he does
“LSU’s staff is full of great coaches and men who focus on the development of the team not only as player, but into becoming adults which shows a true coaching environment. It’s always great to be around LSU’s players and coaching staff.”
Rogers sees his recruitment take off following junior season
With an impressive junior season in the books, Rogers saw his recruitment explode this offseason.
In February, Rogers had offers come in from the likes of Miami, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Texas.

In early March, LSU brought Rogers to campus and offered him a verbal scholarship. Alabama offered two weeks later, pushing his offer count over 20.
Now, he’s locked in with the Tigers as the No. 4 player in Louisiana on the On3 rankings. With the addition of Rogers, LSU has commitments from six of the Top 10 prospects in Louisiana for the 2024 class.
On3 is high on what Rogers brings to a college team
In February, On3 updated the Top 300 for the 2024 class. Rogers went from unranked to the No. 211 overall prospect in the country.
Four months later, Rogers is now ranked by On3 as the No. 186 overall prospect in the country and No. 17 safety recruit in the 2024 class.
On3 National Director of Rankings and Scouting Charles Power tabbed Rogers as the No. 4 prospect in the state of Louisiana.
“We liked Joel Rogers’ ability as a two-way playmaker when projecting him as a safety,” Power said. “He’s a high school quarterback who makes a lot of plays with his mobility. We were also impressed with his physicality and striking power on defense. He’s a natural on that side of the ball.”
