BREAKING: Louisiana WR Phillip Wright III commits to LSU
LSU has landed a commitment from another wide receiver, this time reeling in Destrehan (La.) rising senior Phillip Wright III.
Wright’s commitment to LSU comes a week after he backed off his verbal pledge to Michigan, having been committed to the Wolverines for less than a month.
Now, the New Orleans wideout is staying home for college to play for the Tigers, giving the Tigers a pair of commitment over the past 24 hours following 4-star safety CJ Jimcoily‘s announcement for LSU on Thursday.
Wright had been trending to LSU on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), and a recent offer from the LSU Track and Field staff coupled with the football staff’s push at July’s Bayou Splash recruiting event was enough to flip the in-state target away from Michigan’s class.
“I had a good time connecting with the coaches and the players around the (program). It was a good visit,” Wright told On3. “That (track offer) is big for me because I always wanted to experience that next level of track and racing some of the nation’s best. I would love to see how that would work out for me.”

LSU area recruiter Frank Wilson and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton were key in Wright’s recruitment, as well.
“Coach Hankton talked to me about how you could be used in the offense with my speed comparing me to some of the wide receivers he coached and just showed how they want me there,” Wright said. “He’s a good coach. He has coached some of best wide receivers in the game. He puts the best guys on the field to win.”
At 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Wright is ranked as the No. 69 wide receiver and No. 422 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 12 overall recruit in the state of Louisiana.
Wright’s commitment gives LSU a trio of wide receivers for the 2025 class with Louisiana 4-star TaRon Francis and Nevada 4-star Derek Meadows, who are both ranked inside the On300.
LSU has 21 commitments and the No. 3 class on the On3 Industry Recruiting Rankings for the 2025 cycle.
