Early in LSU’s game against Nicholls State on Saturday night, Jacobian Guillory left the field unable to put weight on one of his legs, leaving with a heavy limp. He eventually left the sideline in a wheelchair with a cast on the foot. On Sunday morning, it was reported that Jacobian Guillory has suffered a torn achilles that will sideline him for the 2024 season. (First reported by Lonn Sullivan)

Guillory is a fifth-year senior out of Alexandria, Louisiana who has spent his entire carer at LSU, starting back in 2020. After a reserve role early, he made his way into the rotation for parts of last year, recording five tackles against Florida and Florida State and going into 2024 was named the best defensive tackle on the team by head coach Brian Kelly.

“I’ve been here so long, I know the ins and outs, I know that this is what I have to do to get better and get to the next level,” Guillory said before the season. “Why not attack it full heartedly every single day? It’s my last day because I don’t know when this game can be taken away from me. So just, I know that I have to go out there. I have to go out there and perform for them. But this is for me too. I need to go out there and make sure I’m crisp so I can go out there Saturday nights and also so I can perform.”

Guillory’s injury leaves a massive hole to fill in the middle of LSU’s defensive line and players like Jay’Viar Suggs, Gio Paez, Ahmad Breaux, Shone Washington, and Dominick McKinley will have to be ready to step up and help solidify the defensive front moving forward.

“Oh, we got a lot of bodies,” Guillory said in August. “Guys that have transferred in Gio. You got Suggs that’s transferring. You got a lot of guys that transferred in and you got guys that’s been here like me and Jalen Lee. The freshmen Dom and Ahmad. So many guys now so it’s kind of it’s hard to get you is more not hard I would say it’s just getting used to having so many guys trying to bring so many guys along. Just making sure everybody can just be on the same accord and I think every day we’re getting better. You have a guy like Dominick McKinley coming in he’s got to learn from day one and so do the guys from other schools.”

The injury comes less than a week after senior running back John Emery tore his ACL for the second straight season, thus ending his 2024 campaign far too early. The injury bug continues to hit LSU as wide receiver Chris Hilton has missed the first two games of the season.

The Tigers are 1-1 after Saturday’s win over Nicholls State, but now head on the road to face South Carolina to begin SEC competition next weekend.
