LSU has landed another defensive lineman out of Texas, this time reeling in a commitment from 2025 Arlington (Tex.) Mansfield Timberview defensive lineman Dilan Battle.

Battle, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle, announced his commitment to the Tigers on Monday afternoon.

After making an official visit to LSU in June, Battle felt the Tigers distanced themselves from the rest of his double-digit offer list.

The commitment from Battle is the third defensive tackle addition for LSU this cycle, moving the Tigers to 22 verbal commits. LSU remains the No. 3 class on the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings for the 2025 cycle.

LSU added a pair of 4-star defensive tackle commitments in July when Zion Williams and Brandon Brown – a one-time Texas Longhorns commit – announced their decisions in back-to-back days. The Tigers also hold the On3 Recruiting Prediction (RPM) lead for Georgia defensive tackle Walter Mathis, who is set to announce his college choice this month.

Relationship with Bo Davis lands Battle in LSU’s class

For the Texas native, a relationship with LSU’s defensive line coach – who has now recruited the rising senior to a pair of SEC teams – played a big role in Battle landing in the 2025 class for the Tigers.

LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis has a relationship with Battle going back to his days in Austin, which was key in the interest Davis had in the rising senior out of the Lone Star State.

“He told me I am a great player they he really wants to come here,” Battle said. “I have a great chance to come in and play right away, but he also told me what I need to work on (to get there).”

From there, talks with current players and LSU head coach Brian Kelly helped push the Tigers into the top spot on Battle’s list of suitors.

“Talking to a few of the freshman players and them just telling me their experiences and how they feel about LSU and the tradition and how they get people to the league,” Battle said. “I really like LSU. The coaches and the staff did a great job making me feel at home and the players, too.

“(Coach Kelly) told me to make the best decision for me. I know that LSU set the bar high and I know exactly what LSU is going to do for me and make sure the other schools will do that or better,” Battle said. “He’s a good head coach. Really impressed on what he’s doing with LSU.”

Battle is the No. 569 player in the country, No. 53 defensive tackle, and No. 82 prospect in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Rankinga weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
