LSU has landed another signee out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, this time reeling in a top offensive line target in Northwestern’s Josh Thompson.

Thompson, a Michigan native who has 20-plus starts at Northwestern, announced the decision on Friday. He also signed with LSU on Friday, he told The Bengal Tiger staff.

Josh Thompson appeared in 31 games at Northwestern and started 21 times across his career. He’s the second offensive line addition for LSU, with the Tigers also adding a multi-year starter out of Virginia Tech in Braelin Moore, who is set to take over at center.

After visiting schools across the country over the past month, the battle came down to LSU and Tennessee.

After leaning towards Tennessee, Thompson said his decision shifted to LSU this week when it became final and an announcement date was set in his mind.

“It wasn’t easy, but it feels like there is a big weight lifted off my shoulder,” Thompson told The Bengal Tiger on Friday afternoon. “With only one year left to play, there was so much going into the decision for me.”

The fit at LSU, the winning culture from the Tigers and the ability to play in the Southeastern Conference on a team with National Championship goals all played a role into choosing the Tigers.

“I want three things out of this,” Thompson said. “This is a one year rental for me. I want it to become home. I want it to be a really good fit for me. I want to be around a guy who’s going to be able to develop me. I want to be around a winning culture. I’m a very competitive person. And I want to enjoy this last year of college football. I want it to be a milestone in my life that I will look back on and remember forever.”

Thompson is LSU’s 14th addition from the portal this month, joining an impressive group of players on offense, defense and special teams that ranks among the best in college football.
