Breaking: LSU MBB adds four-star PG Jalen Reece to 2025 class
Matt McMahon and LSU are on the board with another top-70 commitment in the 2025 class, this time in Jalen Reece, a 6-foot-point guard from Orlando, Florida.
Reece picked the Tigers over Providence and Cincinnati on Wednesday night as he announced on Instagram Live. Reece took his official visit to LSU in late September but waited until he took his official visit to Providence before shutting down his recruitment and making his final decision.
“It was a cool visit,” Reece said of LSU. “Just knowing that players like Antonio Blakeney and Ben Simmons went there, those are people I look up to. Knowing that its my turn to go and put the jersey on and just having the ability to go over there and play. (Antonio Blakeney) means a lot to me personally. That’s like my big brother. I remember last year he told me to always be the last one out of the gym. He’s given me a lot of tricks and tips and I work out with him in the summer. I love our relationship.
“It’s a great culture and a great fan base and coach McMahon is heavy on guards so that’s what they’ve been telling me.”
Assistant coaches David Patrick and Tim Kaine played a significant role in this recruitment, but it was all hands on deck, from head coach Matt McMahon down through the staff to seal the deal. Reece is the No. 70 player in the country and the No. 13 point guard in the 2025 class
“They’ve been really consistent,” Reece said in late August. “They call me every other day, so knowing I’m a top priority for them is great to know. I can tell I’ve become [more of a priority]. Coach McMahon has been calling me even more just staying on me calling and texting me a lot. Also coach Kaine talks to me a lot and has been in touch for a long time.”

LSU’s updated 2025 class
Reece give the Tigers three top-75 commitments with Pennsylvania forward Matthew Gilhool and California shooting guard Mazi Mosley joining Reece as four-star commitments.
Before Reece committed, LSU had the No. 14 class in the country, but now the Tigers should move into the top 10, with still plenty of dominoes left to fall across the country.
Still, it marks back-to-back years where the Tigers will end the year with another top 15 class as Matt McMahon continues to emphasize adding high school talent and developing as we’ve seen with Tyrell Ward, Jalen Reed, Mike Williams, Corey Chest, and others in his three years at LSU.
The Tigers enter the 2024-25 season with raised expectations after a 9-9 SEC record last year as the program continues to pick up momentum on the court and on the recruiting trail.
