BREAKING: Mississippi CB PJ Woodland commits to LSU
LSU has landed another commitment for the 2024 recruiting class with the addition of Mississippi three-star athlete PJ Woodland.
Woodland, a senior at Oak Grove in Hattiesburg, announced his commitment to the Tigers not long after reopening his recruiting process earlier this month. Woodland had been committed to Mississippi State, choosing the in-state Bulldogs over the Tigers this summer.
Despite the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine quickly moving Ole Miss into the lead spot, LSU was able to get Woodland on campus for back-to-back games. First, he was in attendance for the win over Auburn, then returned a week later to see LSU’s home matchup with Army despite earlier plans to visit Alabama for the Tennessee game.
The 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back landed an offer from LSU cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples in May, then camped with the Tigers in June.
“He’s a great coach, has NFL experience as well. He’s a really cool person in general.” Woodland told The Bengal Tiger after being offered. “This one means a lot coming from DBU.”
Now, Woodland is slated to spend his college days in Baton Rouge.
“It’s just great, everywhere you walk around it’s Purple and Gold everywhere,” he said. “To play for a team who takes that much pride in themselves is great. Just the atmosphere and the hospitality was great. The entire staff was great as well. The LSU visit was great, really enjoyed myself.”

Woodland is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 19 athlete in the country for the 2024 cycle.
He has been recruited to LSU as a cornerback prospect, meaning the Tigers quickly worked to fill the void left at the position when four-star Ondre Evans flipped his commitment from LSU to Georgia earlier this week.
Both LSU and Ole Miss were working to get Woodland in the boat after he backed off his pledge to Mississippi State, and now it’s the Tigers who walk away with another addition at defensive back.
LSU has cornerback four cornerback commitments for the 2024 class with Woodland, Louisiana four-star Ju’Juan Johnson, Louisiana three-star Wallace Foster and Florida four-star Cai Bates.
Here’s a look at Woodland’s midseason highlights from Oak Grove.
