BREAKING: South Carolina TE Mike Tyler commits to LSU
The LSU football staff has added commitment No. 23 for the 2025 recruiting class, which keeps momentum rolling in recruiting as the Tigers stay inside the Top 3 of the On3 Industry Team Football Recruiting Rankings.
On Saturday, South Carolina 3-star tight end prospect Mike Tyler announced his commitment to LSU, picking the Tigers over a double-digit offer list that came down to a final three of the Tigers, West Virginia and Duke. LSU held the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) with a pair of picks in favor of the Tigers.
In June, Tyler shined at LSU camp with a strong performance in front of the coaching staff, which led tight ends coach Slade Nagle and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan to turn up the heat with the program’s push for the Columbia native.
Tyler and his family returned to Baton Rouge for an official visit at the end of June, and the South Carolina native was back on LSU’s campus for the Bayou Splash recruiting event at the end of July – a weekend that helped put the Tigers firmly in the lead for his verbal pledge.
“The Bayou Splash was amazing,” Tyler told On3. “The games were fun and the players that were there were cool.
“I like the southern hospitality at LSU. It is real down there. The people are great. Random people act like they have known you for years, and it was a good feeling for me there. I like the coaches, the offense and how they use the tight end at LSU, too.”
Tyler joins Louisiana 4-star JD LaFleur as the second tight end commitment in LSU’s 2025 class, which likely wraps up the additions at the position this cycle for Nagle and the Tigers.

With Mason Taylor entering his junior season as one of the Southeastern Conference’s top tight ends, LSU also has a pair of 6-foot-6 tight ends working as backups in sophomore Ka’Morreun Pimpton and true freshman Trey’Dez Green. Pimpton was ranked by On3 as the No. 4 tight end prospect in the 2023 class, while Green left high school in Louisiana as On3’s No. 2 tight end prospect and a 5-star recruit.
Thanks to the work done by Nagle, Sloan and the staff, LSU now has more talented tight end depth coming with the additions of Tyler and LaFleur.
“What excites me about LSU is the upward trajectory they’re on,” Tyler told The Bengal Tiger staff.
While the in-state Gamecocks offered and pushed for the Columbia native, Tyler said LSU’s track record of development combined with the staff head coach Brian Kelly assembled left him confident the Tigers were the right choice as he makes the move from Hammond High to SEC football.
“The relationships with the position coach, the offense and who I (felt could) develop me best for the NFL,” Tyler said of why he chose the Tigers over a double-digit offer list.
