Brian Kelly's update on Jayden Daniels, LSU injury report vs. Auburn
LSU head coach Brian Kelly took the podium on Thursday night one final time before the home game against Auburn on Saturday night. He fielded questions about both sides of the ball, but also gave key updates on star quarterback Jayden Daniels and an updated injury report for his team before heading into yet another challenging SEC contest.
Here’s what he said.
Jayden Daniels
Daniels is cleared and ready to play against Auburn this week after taking a shot to the ribs last week that knocked him out of the game for a possession. He rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown in LSU’s win against Missouri and took several hits throughout the season that he bounced back up from. Now, Kelly says he’s ready to go.
“As a coach you want to be aware of how a quarterback is feeling and how you move into the week, but we have captain meetings on Monday and he said ‘coach, I don’t want you to change anything. I’m good to go.’ So we didn’t change anything up. He took all the reps and it sent a good message to everybody that there are going to be bumps and bruises and guys are going to be sore, but you have to get through it. He feels really good now, but he was pretty sore Tuesday and Wednesday. Today he looked good and was back to himself and he’s ready to compete at a high level.”
LSU’s Injury report
WR Chris Hilton – Out
LB Omar Speights – Active
WR Aaron Anderson – Active
OL Charles Turner – Active
Turner is the big one here after suffering a lower body injury that came back negative despite holding him out of the game. Turner has a lot on his plate this week against an Auburn defensive front that has given Texas A&M and Alabama some problems in their games.

Hilton continues to nurse the high ankle sprain and will likely be out for another week or two at minimum, but LSU gets Anderson back who can potentially make plays in the slot and spot Kyren Lacy on some snaps.
It will be interesting to see how LSU uses Omar Speights this week. Last time he returned from injury he was inserted back in the starting lineup over Whit Weeks. We’ll see how LSU uses him this time around.
Duce Chestnut
“I’m going to meet with Duce tomorrow and we’ll have a follow up on him next week.”
LSU’s junior cornerback has been away from the team for a few weeks now and one would assume that means he’s looking to move on. Without any official word besides what Brian Kelly has said, we’ll have to wait to see how this transpires.
