LOOK: Brian Kelly, LSU check in on 4-star WR Jelani Watkins
2024 Humble (Tex.) Atascocita wide receiver and LSU commit Jelani Watkins got a special visit on Thursday. LSU head coach Brian Kelly and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton stopped in at his high school.
Kelly is busy on the recruiting trail, checking on numerous commitments ahead of the early signing period. Watkins is one of many in the Top 10 class for LSU that is set to put pen to paper.
The four-star prospect pledged to the Tigers this summer and he likes that he’s headed back to Louisiana.
“It’s been good,” he said. “I know I made a good decision because basically, I’m going to be around the environment I grew up around. I really be around my people again.”
Recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson and Hankton are key figures in his commitment to the Tigers. He’ll enroll this summer after taking aim at another standout track season this spring in Texas.

“It’s good. I talk to Sherm almost every day,” Watkins said earlier this year. “Coach Hankton hits me up every once in a while and we chop it up when he’s not busy.”
