WATCH: Brian Kelly previews Citrus Bowl, updates health of Jayden Daniels
LSU head coach Brian Kelly previewed the Citrus Bowl matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers. Check out the full press conference on The Bengal Tiger YouTube channel.
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was injured in the SEC Championship game loss to Georgia, is looking like he’ll play on Jan. 2.
“He looked really good today. He’s been limited, but today was kind of his last test,” Kelly said. “One of the things we like to do is put the quarterback in direct snap so he’s pushing off and driving back. It’s hard, when you’re in shotgun, you shuffle your feet and you throw. That’s how you can get them back quickly, when you’re in shotgun. But you put him in direct snap and he’s got to drive and use his weight and transfer, and a seven step drop and then step up and move.
“[When you can do that] you know you’re ready and today he went through that progression. If we were playing tomorrow, he’d be ready to play.”

Brian Kelly, LSU eyeing strong recruiting finish
Kelly and his staff are hosting the last official visitors of 2022 with multiple top targets in Baton Rouge. On Wednesday, the early signing period begins and Kelly is looking at adding over 30 newcomers for 2023.
“We’re going to identify the best prospects throughout the country and you’ll see that in this signing class. We’ll have players from the northeast, the midwest, the west coast. But our base will be Louisiana and the south,” Brian Kelly said. “When you’re LSU and you have a brand that’s so recognizable, you can’t have blinders on either. Our scope and vision is national but it’s not like we’re pulling four guys out of every state. We’re gonna have a heavy influence in the state of Louisiana, like we should.”
LSU has 25 commitments in the 2023 recruiting class, which ranks No. 7 according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
