LSU’s fall represented the largest movement in this week’s AP and Coaches Polls.

The Tigers slipped to No. 16 on both lists — down eight and nine spots, respectively — following their 38-23 loss at Texas A&M.

The Aggies moved up four spots to No. 10 in the AP Poll and three spots to No. 11 in the Coaches following their victory.

That battle atop the SEC standings marked the week’s only “upset” based on the rankings, though Texas A&M was favored at home by betting odds.

Week 9 was the first week of this season since Week 4 (Sept. 16-22) without multiple upsets in the rankings and just the third time this season, along with that week and the limited Week 0 (Aug. 24) slate.

No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Penn State, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Miami, No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Tennessee now lead both the AP and Coaches Polls.

LSU’s next opponent, Alabama, moved up one spot on both lists to No. 14.

Coach Brian Kelly said following Saturday’s loss that he thinks the Tigers remain in the mix for their postseason goals, but that they now have no margin for error.

The latest ESPN Football Power Index predicts LSU with a 21.2% chance to make the new 12-team College Football Playoff.
