Dashawn Womack's status with LSU after missing game vs. Florida
News broke on Saturday before the game against Florida that LSU would be without defensive end Dashawn Womack for the game and also without two defensive starters for the first quarter in Sage Ryan and Bradyn Swinson.
Ryan and Swinson returned to play in the game and are in good standing moving forward. Brian Kelly said it was a coaches decision and would not elaborate on their absences. As for Womack, Kelly never commented on his absence, but on Monday said LSU’s sophomore defensive end would be available on Saturday at home against Vanderbilt.
Womack was a five-star prospect in LSU’s 2023 class and has totaled eight tackles and a sack this year along with four pass breakups. He has been behind senior Bradyn Swinson who has occupied a vast majority of the snaps as he’s been one of the best defensive ends in the SEC this season, limiting Womacks’ snap count.
Still, getting Womack back provides the Tigers with key depth on the defensive line, which it will need facing the physicality and scheme of Vanderbilt and quarterback Diego Pavia who have given the rest of the conference fits with their run game.
Kelly also said that offensive lineman Miles Frazier would be practicing, but the status of offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger was still in question.

LSU’s approach vs. Vanderbilt
LSU hopes to stop its three game losing skid on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium as the Tigers and Commodores come into the game at 6-4 on the season and Clark Lea’s team hopes for another statement win in the SEC.
“It’s the nature of this conference,” Kelly said. “Every week is a battle. The new battle for us is Vanderbilt and Clark Lea has done a great job of staying the course, being consistent with his program and what he wants to achieve and having a breakthrough season highlighted with the win over Alabama.”
For Kelly and LSU this time becomes about finding which players are ready to dig in and hold the rope in these final two games of the regular season. In year three of the Kelly tenure at LSU, there’s an expectation that the players on his team are ready to fight, and he’s ready to see who wants to play.
“When you go out to practice for two hours, you know the guys who are invested and who are bought in and this football team is bought in. They’re disappointed just like our fan base that we have not gotten the results we want, but this group has resilience, it has grit, we’ve built it in this program, and they’ll respond. And the ones who don’t choose to, that is their choice. They’ll have the autonomy to make those choices, but there’s nowhere to hide when you go out on that practice field. You can’t hide it. You have to put in the effort and put in the time and prepare the right way and i’m confident in this group in how they’ll do that.”
