LSU will host four-star cornerback commitment Daylen Austin for an official visit in Baton Rouge this weekend.

Austin committed to the Tigers on May 16, and he’s since been firm with the pledge despite making unofficial visits to other college campuses.

“It’s the culture up there. I feel love every time I’m up there so I really like that,” Austin told The Bengal Tiger. “We talk all the time. I saw all the recruits come in for Bayou Splash (in June) and we got to bond.

“Me and (LSU safety commitment Michael Daugherty) talk all the time. Even (LSU commitment) JoJo Stone from 2024, we talk. The other recruits, we’re all in a group chat and joke with everybody. We’re all close. It’s a good feeling, and I feel like the brotherhood is building.”

Austin will spend a full weekend in Baton Rouge

While Austin’s Long Beach Poly team (8-0) has a game on Friday night against Compton High, he’s scheduled to fly out immediately after the final whistle blows.

That will put Austin on campus at LSU for Saturday morning ahead of a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff against Ole Miss, which will be televised on CBS.

Austin and his family will depart campus on Sunday evening, giving the group plenty of time to get more familiarized with the LSU football staff and program.

Austin is part of a 22-man commitment list for the Tigers that ranks No. 5 on the On3 Consensus.

Austin made an official visit to Michigan State in the summer, and while he’s been courted by the Oregon staff, no official visit date has been locked in with the Ducks.

Director of Scouting and Rankings weighs in

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power has seen Austin play both in person and work out at camps, including an in-person evaluation of the California four-star at LSU’s Elite Camp in July, which helped push the LSU commitment even further up the rankings.

“Austin moved up 74 spots and got a bump in his rating in large part due to seeing him at LSU’s camp,” Power said. “He looked good out there. There was a lot of top DBs at the camp and I think Austin looked the part.

“He was one who I think was a stock up prospect coming out of the spring. He posted some good track times. Think he ran 10.8 range. Getting to see him at LSU’s camp, verifying the size, the length and all of that, seeing him move around and cover in that setting was pretty helpful in sorting him out within the cornerback group. We thought he deserved a bump.”

The On3 Rankings and Evaluation

Austin ranks as the No. 150 overall prospect and No. 16 cornerback in the nation, according to On3. According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Austin ranks as the No. 124 overall prospect and No. 12 cornerback nationally.

The On3 Evaluation: Brings a combination of size, athleticism and playmaking to the table at cornerback. He has solid size at 5-foot-11.5, 176 pounds. Austin has shown some improved speed this spring, running 10.82 seconds in the 100 meters. He had a strong junior season and really excelled as a return man. We saw Austin’s playmaking ability on display as he took several kick and punt returns to the house. He drives on the ball in coverage. Austin also shows ball skills at corner with the ability to track and high-point the ball downfield.
