5-star DB Desmond Ricks sets next LSU visit
2023 IMG Academy (Fla.) defensive back Desmond Ricks will be at LSU this weekend for the Alabama game, he announced on Twitter. Alabama, Florida, USC and others are pushing for the five-star prospect.
Ricks could sign in December, during the Early Signing Period or he could wait until February. That is something Ricks is still working to figure out. Alabama will host Ricks for the Iron Bowl, Florida will host him Dec. 2 and then LSU will host him Dec. 17 for an official visit.
LSU cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples impressed Ricks when they sat down and chatted on his visit over the summer. Steeples is leading the charge for the Tigers, who are the current On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine leader.
“He definitely does (fit his ideal coach),” Ricks said about Steeples. “He’s somebody that knows what he’s talking about. Younger coach so he’s easier to connect with.”

Desmond Ricks scouting report
On3 director of scouting Charles Power broke down Ricks, who landed at No. 23 overall in the On300 rankings for 2023. According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Ricks ranks as the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback nationally.
“Desmond Ricks’ 2022 season at IMG has been a bit of a mixed bag thus far. He’s lined up at outside corner and in the slot,” Power wrote. “Ricks has given up some catches and touchdowns, while also making some plays on the ball. He looks to be most natural when working outside – more of a fit for his longer stride – as opposed to sticking with quicker receivers out of the slot. Ricks can also continue to improve his tackling and play strength, though he has shown some flashes of physicality in run support.”
Ricks in at over 6-foot-1, 180 pounds with average length for his stature. He has registered good straight-line speed and high-end explosion in combine settings, most recently running an electronically-timed 4.53 second 40-yard dash while jumping 38.7 inches in the vertical and 10’4″ in the broad jump at IMG’s pro day in the spring.
