Everything Jayden Daniels said after playoff win over Lions
Rookie quarterback and former LSU star Jayden Daniels led the Washington Commanders to a resounding 45-31 win over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. Daniels ended with an incredible outing of 299 yards on 22-of-31 passing with two touchdowns to zero interceptions, while also rushing for 51 yards.
Daniels continues his incredible rookie season, now awaiting the winner of the Eagles and Rams game on Sunday to play in the NFC Championship, the first appearance for Washington since 1991.
After the game, Daniels met with the media and here is everything he said about the performance.
Opening statement…
“It feels good. It’s a surreal moment for the Washington fanbase, the whole DMV, it’s just an awesome feeling.”
On staying focused on the road…
“I don’t focus on anything like that. It’s an electric fan base, game, atmosphere, so I was excited to play in it. Outside distractions distract you from what the main goal is and that’s to win.”
On facing their blitzes…
“We handled their blitz. Know where your man beaters are to beat man coverage. Kudos to them, that’s a phenomenal team over there. Well-coached and fought hard, so it was a challenge for us.”
Daniels on his belief…
“I always believed we could achieve more than what people give us credit for. You have to go out there and put in the work each and every day. Just put your head down and grind and when you look up at the end of the season, you could be in a position like this.”
On the defense…
They played lights out. They got us the ball back. They made plays when they needed to be made. I’m happy for Mikey, two picks in a playoff game, coming back to Michigan and with us being in the same draft class, I’m just excited for him. The whole defense played lights out, made plays, and got turnovers.”
On the high scoring second quarter…
“We knew we were going to have to put up points. That’s a very explosive offense over there with a lot of great players. We knew we had to put up points.”

On the offense’s approach in the second half…
“We had to sustain drives to keep them off the field. We knew the firepower they had on the other side so we didn’t want to give them the ball back.”
On Brian Robinson…
“He ran hard, got behind his pads, got downhill. The offensive line did a phenomenal job staying on blocks and getting up to double team, so all around good game for the offense and the whole team, but we’ve got more to accomplish and we have to get better next week.”
On his approach to the playoffs…
“Stayed the same. Obviously, everybody will put more magnitude on the games because its win or go home, but you have to go out there and stay consistent.”
Daniels on the crowd noise…
“I didn’t even notice it honestly. The crowd was very hyped, but I wasn’t focused on the crowd noise, just focused on my 1-11th.”
The fourth down conversions…
“Those were key. Like i said they are a great offense on the other side so we didn’t want to give them the ball back.”
Do you feel like you can beat any team anywhere?
“I love my team and I’m confident in my team, so we’ll roll into the next game and focus on that opponent.”
